VOLKSWAGEN ANDRETTI RALLYCROSS CONFIRMS RED BULL GRC DRIVER LINEUP

After a strong performance in its inaugural season, the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team is ready to challenge for this year’s driver and manufacturer titles in the Global Rallycross Championship. In 2015, the team will be on the attack with two Beetle GRC race cars, which debuted in the final races of 2014.

The race cars were designed and engineered specifically for the Red Bull Global Rallycross series. The Beetle GRC technical highlights include a 544 horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder TSI® turbocharged and intercooled engine, which is mated to a sequential six-speed transmission and a fixed-ratio all-wheel-drive system. With this race-ready configuration, the Beetle GRC is expected to reach 60 mph from rest in 2.1 seconds, as fast as a Formula 1 race car.

Scott Speed will be returning to the team after recording three victories in the 2014 season and earning third in the 2014 driver’s championship. Prior to rallycross, Speed competed in Formula 1 in 2006 and 2007, and NASCAR between 2008 and 2013.

Defending champions Olsbergs MSE  announce their return to the worldwide rallycross stage with a full roster of drivers preparing for an international, multi-championship campaign. The team finished atop the podium in both classes of Red Bull Global Rallycross last season and is again aiming for global dominance.

“We have the best young talents in the world driving for OMSE this season,” said team owner Andreas Eriksson. “Our philosophy is to promote drivers through the ranks and support them with the best equipment. Our lineup shows a huge amount of potential in 2015.”

In Red Bull Global Rallycross, defending champion Joni Wiman returns to the team in the Red Bull / Bluebeam Ford Fiesta ST, this year joined by Supercars newcomer Mitchell DeJong in the Red Bull Ford Fiesta ST.

OMSE returns to competition with support from technical partner Ford. “We’re excited to continue our partnership with the Olsbergs MSE Ford team in Red Bull Global Rallycross,” said Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing.

“The team and its Fiesta ST program have won four straight championships in Red Bull Global Rallycross. They’ve got an excellent platform with a young and talented driver lineup. We’re really looking forward to the 2015 season.”

OMSE Ford Fiesta rallycross cars are class of the field at any race they enter. The powerful, 600-horsepower all-wheel drive Supercars machines are top performers that have scored countless wins and podiums at races around the world.

DeJong, at 17, is the youngest driver in Red Bull Global Rallycross. He won all but two races in the 2014 GRC Lites development series and will step up to the top Supercars class for the first time in 2015.

Teammate Wiman transitions from the rookie to an expert role on the team as he returns to defend his 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross drivers’ title. The 21-year-old driver earned five podiums last season — three second-place finishes and two thirds — en route to his first drivers’ title.

OMSE’s campaigns in rallycross are guided by the new team slogan “Extreme Forces,” representing their united worldwide challenge for rallycross dominance. Fans can follow the team across social media platforms using the #OMSE #XForces hashtags.

The successful Lites development series will also return in 2015 with a full calendar supporting Red Bull Global Rallycross. Confirmed for OMSE’s 2015 GRC Lites squad are young American Austin Cindric and Swede Oliver Eriksson.

SH Racing Rallycross announced it will return to the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship for the 2015 season with International Racer and X GAMES medalist Nelson Piquet Jr. behind the wheel.

The team also unveiled a fresh look on its OMSE built Factory Ford Fiesta ST with new Primary sponsorship from HYDROXYCUT. The No. 07 will showcase the newly revealed HYDROXYCUT livery at seven of twelve Red Bull GRC races this year, as well as the 2015 Austin X GAMES.

Commenting on the twin announcements, SH Racing Rallycross team owner James “Sulli” Sullivan said, “Last year we laid the foundation and this year we’re building the house. Not only do we have continuity with Nelson, but the 2015 team we’ve built is stronger and smarter than last year. I’m stoked!”

SH Rallycross had a break out first season contending for the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship its first year in the series with four consecutive podiums including taking Bronze at the Summer X GAMES with Piquet Jr. behind the wheel.

Piquet Jr., who quickly adapted to Rallycross with SH in 2014, spent four years working his way up the NASCAR ranks. During his NASCAR career, Piquet Jr. became the first Brazilian to visit Victory Lane in the Nationwide Series by taking the checkered flag at Road America in 2012. He is best known for his time in Formula 1 with the ING Renault team, starting as a test driver and graduating to a full-time ride. He also won the Formula E event in Long Beach.

“I am really looking forward to competing again with SH Rallycross in this year’s Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship,” Piquet Jr. said. “It’s a series that I absolutely love. I had so much fun last year. Together we achieved a lot and had numerous podiums and a lot of highlights. We didn’t get that elusive win, but this year that is very much our expectation. The team and set up we have this year is a different ballgame.”

Piquet Jr. went on to say, “SH Rallycross is mixing IndyCar engineering with Rallycross knowhow and our aim is to make a step up from last year and be consistently competing at the top end of the action. It’s also really exciting to have Hydroxycut on board. They’ve been involved with motorsports now for three years and already have Indy 500 and Toronto GP wins under their belt – I’m aiming to add a GRC win to that tally for them! The start of the season can’t come quick enough.”

SH Rallycross expects to make another major sponsorship announcement in the coming weeks which shall include the unveiling of the sponsor and livery for the season opening race in Ft. Lauderdale on May 31st.
